Many Goldendoodles are double-coated, unlike their Poodle ancestors. Unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian or required for health reasons (i.e., removing mats), completely shaving your double-coated dog isn’t a good idea.

Popular types of Goldendoodle haircuts
A Goldendoodle is undoubtedly one of the most adorable pets to have. If you have had the chance of petting a Goldendoodle once, you would not want to go for any other breed ever.
As the name specifies, the dog is golden in color and is quite furry. The golden fur of it, at times, annoys the pet owner owing to the hair falling all over the house. The cleaning process is time-consuming, and you need to sweep a lot of fallen hair.
However, this is not comparable to the joy you get whenever you see your little pet moving around your legs in comfort or trying various tactics to cheer you up whenever you feel sad or gloomy.
In order to get the best pleasure out of having a Goldendoodle as a pet, it is necessary to style its fur/hair in such a way that its grown hair won’t appear untidy or ugly.
Kennel haircut
If you are a very neat and clean person, you would want your puppy to also look exceptionally groomed and clean at all times. In such a situation, the kind of cut needed for your dog should be short and sleek.
The kennel haircut is what you would want to go for. This cut is quite popular amongst pet owners who are sick of pet hair falling everywhere in the house.
Being a short style, it is easy to carry for your dog. Along with this, during the summer season, your dog won’t feel irritated by the dense hair on the body.
The kennel cut saves you a lot of time as it doesn’t require brushing. As the hair is already short, brushing it too often is not needed. Along with this, giving a bath to the puppy gets more comfortable, and you can do that in a concise period of time.
Lion cut
The looks of a Goldendoodle somewhat resemble that of a lion. Getting your pet a lion cut will give it the looks of a lion. In this cut, the body hair of the pet is cut really short, while the face and chest get good lengths of the hair.
This makes the dog look like a lion. Along with this, it saves you from the trouble of having to get the hair cut time and again as the hair at the back will grow after taking a lot of time.
Poodle cut
Now, this cut is quite popular amongst pet owners. By the looks of it, the poodle cut makes the dog appear exactly opposite compared to what it looks after getting the lion cut.
It has short hair on the head and chest, while the rest of the body has long hair. Though this cut will require you to get the pet to the barber time and again for recut, the pet will, however, look incredibly adorable in it.
Getting the right cut for your pet is necessary. It adds to the beauty of your Goldendoodle and makes it appear neat and tidy. Before deciding on the right cut to give your dog, keep in mind the final appearance that it might have post-cut.
What Length do you Cut a Goldendoodle?
Many groomers will recommend between ½ to ¾ of an inch, keeping a slightly fuzzy cut. Others suggest 1-2 inches, evenly spread over the dog’s body.
Goldendoodles can have one of several coat types, so it’s impossible to give an overall recommendation for every single one!
There are rules you should follow. Never cut a Goldendoodle’s hair too short, as it will interfere with their natural ability to regulate body temperature. Never shave your Goldendoodle bald unless specifically advised by a veterinarian.
Can I Groom my Goldendoodle Myself?
You can do your own grooming with proper training. Outside of that, you can brush and wash your Goldendoodle yourself. Those two aside, unless you are a professional, you should be cautious when trying to groom your Goldendoodle on your own!
In fact, there are several aspects you can take care of on your own, short of cutting hair. Did you know your Goldendoodle has grooming needs? For example, did you know you shouldn’t shave a double-coated breed, and did you know many Goldendoodles are double coated?
Do you know the grooming needs of your Goldendoodle?
- Undercoat rakes are very useful tools for long-coated breeds like Goldendoodles.
- You can train your dog to tolerate daily tooth-brushing.
- Regular nail trimming is very important!
How much does it cost to groom a Goldendoodle?
Grooming bigger Goldendoodles will probably cost you more, but standard grooming will probably cost you $50-80 USD every 8 weeks or so. Grooming can cost more if your Goldendoodle’s coat hasn’t been maintained and is full of mats or other debris.
What Tools Do I Need to Groom my Goldendoodle?
Like everything else, the grooming tools you’ll need for your Goldendoodle will depend on the job you want to accomplish! Are you an experienced groomer and trying a complete cut, or do you want a slight brush and trim?
Dog clippers with detachable blades
Of course, you’ll need best clippers for Goldendoodles if you plan on doing anything beyond a slight cut or trim.

Scissors
Bulb-tipped scissors are best for safety. How else are you going to trim around the ears or eyes & face? What about the extra fur around your pup’s paw pads?
Thinning Shears

Shampoo & Conditioner
You’ll need dog-friendly shampoo to properly wash your pup’s hair after grooming.
Detangler
Detanglers work to help break up tangles and deter future tangles from forming in the dog’s fur, nourish the coat and act as a sort of ‘conditioner.’
A Leash or other means for keeping your dog still
Do you have a grooming bathtub for dogs? Most already come with an area to attach a leash and secure your pup!

Tried the ARTERO HIT and we didn’t need to try anything else again. While it is a bit noisy but that’s not a big problem for me, this clipper is amazing. It gets the job done in style and has a lot of battery life.
My dog is extra scared of noises so the LLAMN pet clipper was the obvious choice. I’ve read good things about it and I’m happy to say that it is a good choice for people with anxious or scared dogs. Most dogs don’t like this time and when they are also scared of noises, this will be extra hard for them. A low noise option is a must I think.
